This site is intended as a fairly comprehensive reference database of published music for solo harpsichord (primarily) from the baroque and early classical periods. Most music listed is in book form (collection of music, complete works, etc) as opposed to “sheet music” of single pieces. The intent is that all items in the database are still in print or currently available (or with delay), but there will always be exceptions. Since much of this material is fairly obscure, there may be considerable difficulty in obtaining the music. Some out-of-print items are listed to let you know that they may be in some libraries.

Criteria for inclusion in the database is not all that consistent. For the most part, I have tried to restrict the list to composers who have composed at least something for the harpsichord (several exceptions) or keyboard in general (organ works that work well on harpsichord, without transcription). There are many transcriptions (from concertos, organ works, etc) that are not included. For instance, the publisher Armelin has a large number of transcriptions that are not included in the database.

The goal of this site is to broaden awareness of the considerable volume of published harpsichord music and to encourage exploration of works by lesser known composers. Also, the site is a reference for other works by a specific composer you are already interested in.
